Inlays or Onlays

Inlays and Onlays are used when traditional fillings do not provide sufficient protection for the damaged or decayed tooth or when a dental crown may remove too much healthy tooth. Inlays are bonded within the biting surface of your teeth and onlays cover the outer surface or wall of the tooth.

Inlays and Onlays are prepared in two appointments. At the first appointment the dentist will prepare the tooth and take impressions. They are then sent to the laboratory technician for them to craft your custom-made inlay and onlay. You will need to return to the surgery two weeks later to have the inlay or onlay fitted. During this time the dentist will put a temporary filling in your tooth to protect it from further damage.
