Inlays or Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are used when traditional fillings do not provide sufficient protection for the damaged or decayed tooth or when a dental crown may remove too much healthy tooth. Inlays are bonded within the biting surface of your teeth and onlays cover the outer surface or wall of the tooth.
Inlays and Onlays are prepared in two appointments. At the first appointment the dentist will prepare the tooth and take impressions. They are then sent to the laboratory technician for them to craft your custom-made inlay and onlay. You will need to return to the surgery two weeks later to have the inlay or onlay fitted. During this time the dentist will put a temporary filling in your tooth to protect it from further damage.
Inlays and Onlays provide increased protection – compared to fillings, inlays and onlays provide added protection reduce the risk of further damage or decay.
Inlays and Onlays provide a better colour match – with a wide array of colours available inlays and onlays can be closely matched to the unique colour of individual teeth.
Inlays and Onlays are durable – with proper care and attention inlays and onlays can last for longer than a traditional filling and are less likely to cause sensitivity.
Inlays and Onlays provide a conservative treatment option – Inlays and Onlays allow as much of the natural tooth to be retained as possible. Ensuring the long-term health and strength of the tooth.
