Tooth coloured Fillings
With many people becoming more conscious of the way their smile looks when they smile and laugh, white fillings can provide an aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings. With improvements in filling materials in recent years, white fillings can now be used to repair most teeth successfully and your dentist will be able to advise you on the life expectancy of any restoration.
Most fillings will be completed under local anaesthetic to ensure that you experience no pain. The dentist will first remove the decayed part of the tooth and shape the tooth to ensure a good fit for the filling. They will then apply the composite in layers, using a bright light to harden each layer in turn. Once this process is complete the filling will be shaped so that it matches the contour of your tooth and sits properly within your bite. The filling will then be polished to prevent staining.
Advantages
White fillings blend with your natural teeth – this ensures that they will not be visible when you laugh or smile.
White fillings maintain as much as possible of your natural teeth – White fillings require very little of the tooth structure to be removed prior to placement, ensuring that you can keep as much healthy tooth as possible.
White fillings are not affected by changes in temperature – Unlike amalgam filling, white fillings are not affect by temperature changes, reducing the risk of fracture.
White fillings chemically bond to the tooth structure – this helps to give further support to the tooth and reduce the risk of further damage.
